transtec 1500 Internet Appliance bietet einfachstes Management für Internet-Anwendungen

Banbury/Tübingen, 25th March 25 2002.
The launch of the transtec 1500 Internet Appliance by the IT system manufacturer transtec AG from Tuebingen, Germany, marks the introduction of an Internet server ensuring handling of outstanding simplicity both in start-up and during operation. By virtue of web-based management, the server, just one unit high, can be configured and managed from anywhere. What is more, any number of transtec 1500 Internet appliances can be centrally managed in common, saving the administrator time and money in operation of the web server.

The transtec 1500 Internet Appliance is a server which can be fully managed via the Internet, no matter from what location. All you need is a PC with a web browser and an Internet connection. The server itself does not have to be separately equipped with a monitor, keyboard or mouse. The administrator can divide the management of the system into different sectors and assign them to different persons or groups of users on a user interface oriented to the individual management functions (role-based user interface). In this way, for example, those offering Internet services such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or Application Service Providers (ASPs) can grant their customers limited access rights to leased systems. Then the users themselves control only those sectors which are relevant for them. The administrator continues to retain sole access to the management functions important for operation, such as network settings, for instance.

Designed for web hosting

In addition, the transtec 1500 Internet Appliances permit central management of any number of servers. To achieve this, the systems can be grouped as wanted, so that the operations performed by the system manager are simultaneously implemented on all the selected servers. The number of servers in any one such group is immaterial. In this way, even relatively large groups of transtec 1500 Internet Appliances can be managed in a simple and timesaving fashion, just like a single system.

"We have developed our transtec Internet Appliance specially for use in web hosting environments", says Pierre Criqui, Vice President of the Microsoft and Unix/Linux Strategic Business Units at transtec AG. "Thanks to management of outstanding simplicity via the Internet, to the option of managing several systems jointly and to the possibility of granting user rights for specific management steps, this server permits cost-effective web solutions and uncomplicated operation of Internet or Intranet applications."

Inside the transtec 1500 Internet Appliance

The heart of the transtec 1500 Internet Appliance is an Intel Pentium 4 processor operating on the Intel 845 chip set. In the basic configuration, the CPU has a clock rate of 1.6 GHz, the processors are available with up to 2.2 GHz. The server has 258 GB SDRAM, upgradeable to 1.5 GB. The hard disk holds a data volume of 40 GB, in the maximum configuration two disks with 80 MB storage capacity each can be selected. The software is based on the Windows 2000 Server operating system and includes Internet Information Server (IIS), the Server Appliance Kit (SAK) and the latest AddOnPak from Microsoft. Installed in a rackmount enclosure only one unit (1U) high, the web server can be stowed away compactly.
