transtec Hardware Is New Computer Chess World Champion 2003

IT system manufacturer based in Tuebingen, Germany, provides hardware for Shredder computer program

Graz, Austria, 1 December 2003.
The hardware from transtec, the IT system manufacturer based in Tuebingen, Germany, has joined forces with the Shredder chess program to win the title of new computer chess world champion 2003. Shredder, on the transtec 2200 graphics workstation, clinched the victory against competitors Fritz and Junior at the computer chess world championship in Graz, Austria.

The transtec hardware was configured especially for the event and in the contest it proved to be particularly reliable and extremely fast, tipping the scales to win the world title. After eleven rounds played according to International Computer Games Association guidelines, Shredder carried the victory home against the best chess programs of the world.

transtec entered the tournament on a transtec 2200 graphics workstation featuring super-fast Intel Xeon processors. transtec already won the world title in liaison with Shredder in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
