transtec AG offers new solutions

Cost-effective alternatives for companies

Tuebingen, 5 March 2003.
transtec AG, from Tuebingen, Germany, now offers brand-new products for the iSCSI market. The IT system manufacturer is co-operating with Cisco, a leading network provider, to produce these cutting-edge products. transtec’s iSCSI systems are just some of the latest products that the company is presenting in its spring catalogue.

The first especially fast and secure transtec iSCSI systems (TIS-J587A and TIS-R2400A) provide a storage area network (SAN) with fibre channel-based RAID and hard disk systems via TCP/IP connections. "Our advanced iSCSI solutions are directed at customers who want to take the first step towards centralising their storage solutions. Other than that, they can help reduce costs through more efficient use of the hardware," explains Wolfgang Bauer, manager of the storage product management unit at transtec AG.

The Tuebingen company relies on iSCSI routers for its systems that are supplied by Cisco, a company that enjoys a great reputation in the industry. The Cisco routers are then combined with transtec’s own fibre channel systems. The new transtec iSCSI products provide the customer with a complete and ready-to-operate solution that can be integrated into an existing IT infrastructure without any problems. The computers in the SAN are provided with a data capacity of up to 2 TB.

"User investment costs are reduced substantially with these new systems. Besides that, the capacity being used can also be optimised, since data space can be assigned more flexibly," says Bauer. The new iSCSI standard was also recently adopted by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as an official open standard. The new transtec iSCSI products:
